Vibrant Health Advocates - Sable runs peer-led self-management circles for adults living with chronic pain across Elgin and the wider Moray area, offering the practical tools, shared knowledge, and genuine community that medical appointments rarely have time to provide.
Chronic pain is one of the most isolating experiences a person can face — not just because of what it takes from your body, but because of how invisible it can feel to the world around you. At Vibrant Health Advocates - Sable, we believe that no one in Elgin should have to navigate long-term pain alone.
Our self-management circles bring together local people who truly understand what it means to live with persistent pain, whether that's fibromyalgia, arthritis, back conditions, nerve pain, or any of the many other conditions that can reshape a life.
In our groups, practical evidence-based techniques — pacing, sleep management, goal-setting, communicating with healthcare teams — sit alongside honest conversation, gentle movement, and the simple but powerful relief of being in a room with people who get it. We are rooted in Elgin, proud of Moray, and utterly committed to the idea that a vibrant life is possible even on the hard days.
Our self-management circles are facilitated by trained peers who live with chronic pain themselves, so every session is grounded in lived reality. That shared credibility changes what is possible in the room.
We draw on the Stanford Self-Management Programme framework and adapt it for our community, giving participants concrete skills in pacing, flare planning, and activity management. These aren't abstract ideas — they're techniques people use the very same week.
Elgin is our home, and we shape everything around the realities of living here — from the distances people travel to reach us, to the particular gaps in local NHS provision. Our support is specific, not generic.
Our flagship six-week peer programme, equipping participants with a personal toolkit for managing chronic pain day to day.
Each circle brings together eight to twelve people for a structured six-week course, facilitated by two trained peers who live with chronic pain themselves. Participants leave with a personalised self-management plan and an ongoing connection to the Sable community.
Weekly drop-in sessions blending adapted movement, relaxation techniques, and informal peer support in an accessible Elgin venue.
Led by a qualified instructor with specialist training in chronic pain, these sessions are explicitly designed for people on difficult-pain days as much as easier ones. The post-session social time is as valued as the movement itself.
Practical half-day workshops helping participants create robust, personal plans for managing pain flares before they happen.
Our Flare Planning Workshops help participants identify their personal early-warning signs, build a tiered response plan, and communicate their needs clearly to family, carers, and employers.
A monthly open gathering for anyone who has completed a Sable programme, sustaining connection and sharing new strategies over time.
Connect & Thrive meets on the third Tuesday of each month at a central Elgin venue and is open to all past participants — facilitated check-in, a short skills refresher, and open peer conversation.
If you've been curious about joining one of our peer support groups but aren't sure what to expect, here's an honest look at what a typical session feels like.
